Few people are aware that Waterloo Bridge, crossed by thousands of daily commuters(通勤者) and celebrated as a London landmark, was mainly built by a female workforce. There are no written or photographic records of the women who built the bridge since the construction

、company that built it closed in the 1980s and with it went all the records. What’s left is anecdotal evidence, kept alive by the tourist boat captains who have called it the Ladies’ Bridge. During the Second World War, with the majority of the active male labor force away at the front, women increa

、singly took on traditionally male roles. By 1944, 25,000 women were working in the construction industry, carrying out back-breaking tasks. These women were permitted to carry out this exhausting and dangerous work on the basis that it would only be temporary and that their pay would be lower than t

、hat of men. So the trend in women working in construction and engineering did not continue after the war. September sees a series of events celebrating the unknown work of the large female workforce. Musician Claudia Molitor has created a 45-minute musical entitled “the Singing Bridge”, which runs

In late September, the “Light up the Ladies’ Bridge” event sees the National Theatre’s fly tower lit up by large scale photographic projections(投影) of female construction workers working in construction during World War Ⅱ. Let’s all celebrate the women who

、 know about the bridge. 2.Why did London women do the construction work? A.It was a tradition in London. B.They wanted to get a steady job. C.The company offered them better pay. D.Most men had gone to th

、e battlefield. 3.What’s the fourth paragraph mainly about? A.The influence of the bridge on art. B.A musician’s contribution to the bridge. C.The events in honor of the bridge builders. D.Women’s work during the Second World War.

4.Which can be the best title for the text? A.Female Workers on the Rise B.A Hidden Treasure in London C.A New London Landmark D.The Story Behind the Ladies’ Bridge D

When scientists __4__ (stimulate) a specific part of the brain, the animal moved __5__ (it) leg or tail. And some scientists assumed that large parts of the brain were simply useless. Then, in the early

、20th century, scientists observed that stimulating certain regions of the brain had no physical effects, which __6__ (call) the “silent cortex”. Today we know that much of the “silent cortex” is actually devoted to complex activities like language, learning and imagining. Actually, __7__ we sleep,

、many areas of the brain are extremely active. Would you be smarter if your entire brain constantly worked to maximum capacity? __8__ (interest) enough, the opposite is probably true. 27、broad, but this time with students可知,作者重“訪(visit)”西班牙。 I felt like I was at home和下文的feel like this可知,在異國他鄉(xiāng)能找到家的感覺確實“幸運(lucky)”。 4.C 根據(jù)上文的nice, felt like, feel like可知,作者認識到家就是“心靈(heart)”的歸屬地。 A lot of people get homesick及常識可知,

8.D 9.A 根據(jù)上文的you can feel at home可知,此處意思是,如果在一個地方能與“關愛(care for)”自己的人在一起、覺得比較“舒服(comfortable)”,那自然能找到家的感覺。 10.B 11.B 根據(jù)這兩個空所在句中的embracing every moment, enjoying和you can feel

16.D 17.A 因為是第二次來西班牙,所以作者這次“安定(settling in)”下來要比上次更容易些,因為他已經(jīng)“熟悉(accustomed to)”了當?shù)氐奈幕? 18.C 根據(jù)本空所在句中的moving away from home和different in comparison to what you call home可知,背井離鄉(xiāng)自然需要“適應(adapt to)”異地不同于家鄉(xiāng)的很多方面。

Dear Steven, I would like to invite you to the annually Coming-of-age Ceremony of our school. 35、hile, it will turn a new page in our life, means we have grown up and it is time we more responsibilities for the family and society. I'd appreciate it if you could come and share the unforgettable moment with us. I'm looking forward to your ! 癐t is (high) time that+從句”結(jié)構中,從句謂語動詞要用過去式或用“should+動詞原形”,且should不可省略。 8
