第五天 一.美文晨讀 Forty-three years seems like a long time to remember the name of a mere acquaintance. I have forgotten the name of an old lady, who was a customer on the paper route in my home town when I was a twelve-year-old boy. Yet it dwells in my memory that she taught me a lesson in forgiveness that I shall never forget. On a winter afternoon, a friend and I were throwing stones onto the slanted roof of the old ladys house from a spot near her backyard. The object of our play was to observe how the stones changed to missiles as they rolled to the roofs edge and shot out into the yard like comets falling from the sky. I found myself a perfectly smooth rock and threw it out. The stone was too smooth, however, so it slipped from my hand as I let it go and headed straight not for the roof but for a small window on the old ladys back porch. At the sound of fractured glass, we knew we were in trouble. We turned tail and ran faster than any of our missiles flew off her roof. I was too scared about getting caught that first night to be concerned about the old lady with the broken window in winter. However, a few days later, when I was sure that I hadnt been discovered, I started to feel guilty for her misfortune. She still greeted me with a smile each day when I gave her the paper, but I was no longer able to act comfortably in her presence. I made up my mind that I would save my paper delivery money, and in three weeks I had the seven dollars that I calculated would cover the cost of her window. I put the money in an envelope with a note explaining that I was sorry for breaking her window and hoped that the seven dollars would cover the cost for repairing it. I waited until it was dark, snuck up to the old ladys house, and put the letter I didnt sign through the letter slot in her door. My soul felt redeemed and I could have the freedom of, once again, looking straight into the old ladys kind eyes. The next day, I handed the old lady her paper and was able to return the warm smile that I was receiving from her. She thanked me for the paper and gave me a bag of cookies she had made herself. I thanked her and proceeded to eat the cookies as I continued my route. After several cookies, I felt an envelope and pulled it out of the bag. When I opened the envelope, I was stunned. Inside were the seven dollars and a short note that said, "Im proud of you." 二.詞匯訓(xùn)練 1. The boys are often curious, that is,they are full of c _______; they often ask questions _______. 2. Here are some shopping tips: 1Depending on your workout, shoes designed for walking, running, tennis, cross-training or another specialty will provide the best support for your feet. Shop when you normally exercise. Feet actually get bigger throughout the day, sometimes swelling up as much as a half-size by nighttime.2 Try them on. Never grab a pair of exercise shoes based only on the size of footwear you normally buy. Bring the type of socks you’d wear to work out and go for a walk through the store. 3You should be able to spread your toes out comfortably. Make sure there’s about a half-inch of space between them and the front of the shoe. The back should fit snugly (warmly and comf ortably) against your heel and not move up and down. If your feet are different sizes, buy based on the larger one. Talk to an expert. Shoe salesmen and personal trainers can study your stride (步伐) and the shape of your feet.4 5Many trainers recommend switching footwear every three to five mont hs, if possible, to maintain proper cushioning and support. One tip: if you have to tie your shoes very tightly to feel a good amount of support, they may be ready to go. A. Think about how much you can afford to buy the workout shoes. B. Consider your type of exercise. C. Focus on fit. D. So don’t shop first thing in the morning if you often work out in the evening. E. Pay more attention to new style shoes. F. Replace worn shoes regularly. G. Usually they can recommend the best shoes to guard against injuries. 四.閱讀理解 A It happened to be a beautiful summer afternoon, and Mr. Phillip was taking a walk in the downtown area of Paris, capital of France. In my opinion, mental factors like a strong will are far more decisive in enabling us to achieve success. Therefore, we must apply our strong willpower and perseverance when faced with challenges. Three years ago I was proud to be admitted to a key middle school, but soon I found everything was different from what I had experienced. Though I studied very hard, I still fell far behind educationally. However, I kept on trying persistently searching for the suitable learning methods. Eventually, my studies improved little by little. In a word, where there is a will, there is a way. Only by making strong-willed efforts can we overcome all obstacles lying in our way to success and maximize our potential and gain competitive strengths.- 1.請仔細(xì)閱讀文檔,確保文檔完整性,對于不預(yù)覽、不比對內(nèi)容而直接下載帶來的問題本站不予受理。
