111 Module 6 Films and TV Programmes Period 1 Introduction; Reading and Vocabulary整體設計 教材分析 This period includes Introduction as well as Reading and Vocabulary. Introduction can serve as a warming up of the class. To make students fully prepared for the study of the passage, the teacher may encourage the students to talk about the film Harry Potter, which leads to Reading and Vocabulary. The reading passage is a film review which mainly represents to us the Chinese martial arts film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It is suggested that students should first skim the reading passage and get the general idea of each paragraph and then join them into a short passage. If necessary, deal with some difficult language points. 三維目標 1. 知識與技能 1)Vocabularies about films and TV programmes: actor, actress, adventure film, argue, channel, character, chat show, come out, comedy, crime, desert, direct, disagree, entertaining, female, fiancé, fight, graceful, leap, male, martial arts film, masterpiece, moving, play a part, quiz show, romantic film, roof, soap (opera), sports programme, star(v. ), sword, take place, thriller, TV/radio drama 2)Develop the students’reading ability. 3)Talk about the items of a film. 2. 過程與方法 Individual work or pair work to get every student to participate in class. Explanations to make students master some language points. Fast-reading to make students get the main idea of the passage. 3. 情感與價值 Cultivate students’sense of appreciation. Encourage them to learn from the heroes in the films. 教學重點 Help students make sense of the whole passage. Help students to improve their reading ability. Help students learn and use the vocabularies about films and TV programmes. 教學難點 Help students use the talk about films. 教學過程 →Step 1 Lead-in Before the class teachers may ask students to search some current film posters and collect some information about them. Before learning this section, teachers may organize some warming-up activities. And the activities are as follows. 1. Show some film poster to the students and ask the students questions according to activity 1. Show the following on the screen. Collect the answers from the whole class. For example the first poster: 1 What’s the film called? 2 Who directs it? 3 Who stars in it? 4 When did it come out? Suggested answers: 1 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. 2 Chris Columbus 3 Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint 4 2001 The answers to the second poster: Spider-Man 3; Sam Raimi; Tobey Maguire; 2007 The answers to the third poster: Protégé, Tung-Shing Yee; Andy Lau and Daniel Wu; 2007 Make sure students understand the words and phrases: come out, direct, film star, star(v. ), movie 2. Ask students: What types of film do you know? Then introduce some common type of films and ask students to give examples. Fill in the form below together. Discussion: Students may discuss their answers in pairs. Look at the poster and discuss. Topics: 1)How much do you know the film? 2)Can you tell anything about the film? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a martial arts film. We can see the names of the characters in this poster. I know the male character is played by a well-known actor called Chow Yun-Fat. And the two actress are Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi. Let the students answer the questions quickly and simply. Encourage everyone to speak. →Step 3 While-Reading 1. Skimming Ask the students to read the passage quickly and choose the best summary of the film. Show the following on the screen. 1 It takes place in Peking rooftops and in the deserts of western China. 2 It is a martial arts film that tells the story of a stolen sword, and the fight to get it back. 3 It tells the story of two people who love each other. Suggested answer: 2 is the best 2. Scanning Read this article part by part and make sure students can understand the details in this text. Show the true or false questions for students on the screen and make sure they can understand all of them. Show the following on the screen. 1)Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a masterpiece of martial arts films. 2)Now wuxia films are well received only in China. 3)The story is mainly about how Li Mubai and Yu Xiulian tried to get back a stolen sword. 4)Chow Yun-Fat played wonderfully in the film and the part Li Mubai interests the audience most. 5)Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is really a excellent film.
