The Global Times reports that two online videos showing children telling their parents“I love you” have gone viral in China. The first, filmed by an Anhui TV station, shows a number of college students telling their parents they love them. The responses are mixed.“Are you drunk?” asked one parent. In another similar video, shot by a Shanxi TV station,a father responded even less patiently—“I am going to a meeting,so cut the crap.” Why don’ t Chinese families use those words?Theories revolve around the nature of Confucian teaching.“The parents’ responses show that many Chinese are not good at expressing positive emotions,” Xia Xueluan,a Sociologist from Peking University, told the Global Times,“ They are used to educating children with negative language.” This isn’t the first time that China has done some soulsearching about familial love—last year China Daily asked a crosssection of people if they said“I love you” to their parents, spouses, and children.“I have never said‘I love you’to my family, and I don’t think I will in the future,” one 56yearold told the paper.“Saying it aloud is embarrassing for me.” Still, that doesn’ t mean that love can’ t be expressed. In a separate article,China Daily spoke to Zhao Mengmeng,a 31yearold woman who said she had never told her father she loved him facetoface( “I find it a bit odd” ).Sometimes actions speak louder than words, however,Zhao gave her father a photo album featuring photographs of them together on almost every one of her birthdays in June xx.The pictures went viral online, being forwarded hundreds of thousands of times on Weibo. “I didn’ t sleep the night I heard about it,” her father told China Daily after the story attracted mainstream attention.“ I have now memorized some of the ments on the collection of pictures.” 1.Why don’t Chinese parents say“ I love you” to their children? A.Because they can’ t express it. B.Because they are not good at expressing it. C.Because they think it unnecessary. D.Because they think it should be done only by foreigners. 2.Zhao Mengmeng expressed“I love you” to her father by ________. A.giving him an album containing their photos B.kissing her father’s face and telling him by words C.speaking it out bravely in a TV program D.writing out the three words in a letter 3.What’s the author’s attitude towards the statements about“I love you” ? A.Positive. B.Objective. C.Critical. D.Indifferent. 1. 根據(jù)文章第二段中的“The parents’ responses show that many Chinese are not good at expressing positive emotions...” 2.解析:選A。 根據(jù)文章第四段中的“Sometimes actions speak louder than words, however,Zhao gave her father a photo album featuring photographs of them together...” B。 Wraparound smartphones and rollup puter tablets could soon be ing to a store near you.A British electronics firm has created a plastic transistor. That could make possible a host of devices with flexible electronic displays. To illustrate the possibilities,Plastic Logic showed off a flexible smartwatch with its new transistors.Like other digital displays,a flat plane of transistors sits underneath the lightup layer of the new smartwatch screen. Those transistors tell individual pixels on the plane above when and how much to light up.The arrangement of those pixels creates the pictures and text on a screen. Organic lightemitting diodes,or OLEDS,form the display’s lightup layer. The OLEDs allow electricity to pass through organic semiconductors.Along the way, those materials release energy as light. Engineers had already made some flexible OLEDs.The big advance for Plastic Logic’s display is the flexible plane of transistors.Until now, mercially available transistors have been made on glass sheets. That’s because those earlier transistors were made from materials such as silicon. And making those transistors requires high temperatures. The transistors can be printed onto a surface,so that they coat it,using a process that takes place at room temperature. It is “a bit like spreading out cooked spaghetti onto a sheet”,notes Cain. The process makes very uniform layers. Plastic transistors can make displays “virtually unbreakable,” he says.“You can put them in objects and not worry about dropping them in the way that you do with glass displays.” Controlling distortion was a challenge in developing the new transistors.Plastic Logic prints its transistors as a series of layers.“We put down one pattern, and then we put down a spacer layer. And then we put down another pattern on top,” Cain explains. Features of each pattern measure just a few micrometers. All patterns must line up precisely. If not,the pixels won’t display properly. Some challenges remain. For instance, those flexible displays will need some sort of coating or barrier to protect them from the damaging effects of moisture and air.“Barrier films currently available have limited flexibility,” Pei notes. “With plastic transistors, you can really unlock design features that just haven’t been possible.” Cain says. 4.What is the special feature of Plastic Logic’s smartphone? A.Its screen is made of organic materials. B.Its displays have two players. C.Its transistors can’t be broken. D.Its pixels are arranged to light up. 5.The researchers make transistors out of plastic because________. A.it can be made into different layers B.it is as soft as cooked spaghetti C.it will replace the expensive silicon materials D.it can be produced at normal temperature 6.What’s one of the challenges to make plastic transistors? A.To arrange the patterns of the layers exactly. B.To print the spacer layer after another. C.To put down three layers all together. D.To make each pattern measure just a few micrometers. 7.What is the main problem with Plastic Logic’s transistor? A.How to design its features. B.How to keep it dry all the time. C.How to make barriers flexible. D.How to make barrier films. The big advance for Plastic Logic’s display is the flexible plane of transistors. Plastic transistors can make displays“virtually unbreakable,”he says. The transistors can be printed onto a surface,so that they coat it,using a process that takes place at room temperature. 6.解析:選A。 Features of each pattern measure just a few micrometers. All patterns must line up precisely. If not,the pixels won’t display properly. 結(jié)合倒數(shù)第二段的those flexible displays will need some sort of coating or barrier to protect them from the damaging effects of moisture and air. Passage C Here are some of the movies that inspire you to travel.
