2. Teaching aims
By the end of this class,students are able to:
A.practice their reading skills and ability to extract key information

B.get to know more about the great philosophers of ancient China.
C.retell the introduction of 3great philosophers according to mind
map.

Use the teaching model of“pre-reading+while-reading+
post-reading”.

Phase1:pre-reading
Step1:lead in
teacher shows some pictures to lead to the topic.
Step2;guessing game
Students are divided into 2 groups,and teacher puts some well-
known sayings of 3 great philosophers in ppt(sayings are
marked by numbers).Then,each gro
7、up pick a number at a time
and group members work together to guess who said the
saying that they have picked.
Phase2:while reading
Step1:scanning & retelling
?Students are given 4mins to read the passage,and then they
finish some simple questions in the handout giv
8、en by teacher.
?Teacher shows how to extract key information from the first
paragraph, and then students collect all the key information in
rest paragraphs.
?Students along with teacher complete the mind map.
?Students retell the introduction of 3 philosophers accordi

to the mind map.
Phase3:post reading
Step1:summary
Students work in groups to give a short summary of this
passage ,and then teacher helps to consolidate what we have
learned in this class.
Step2:homework
Students need to collect more information from internet or
other books to write a short passage to introduce one of these 3
philosophers based on what they have learned today.(about 120
words).
